Took 3 hours out from studying to go to the movies with parents, sis, michael and Kaixuan for a midnight show. Kaixuan had her fill of Nachos before going to sleep in the theatre. The movie was filled wth CG throughout and several aspect of our specie is looked at. The struggles between science and faith, rich and poor, survival and humanity can be seen. I guess, for these genre of catastrophic themed movie, the faith of individuals and various religions would be an element that should be unfolded to add to the conflict leaading to the climax. The distinctive of our culture today, is not only drive by the behaviours of groups of people. Like a thread in an elaborate carpent weaven, religion plays an undeniable role.

There are several groups of people that were seen in the show. They are the suiciders, embracers of "End of the World", politicians, the rich, the poor, the leaders in various disciplines, forgivers and strugglers.

It's real that when disaster of garguantuan scale depicted in the show happens, the disparity between the rich and poor will be clearly seen. Survival of the fittest has changed its original Darwinian adaptation of the ideology. It's no longer the genetic intrinsic attributes that will get us the key to survival - natural selecion fails. A higher possibility of making through disasters or escaping them is increased by wealth. In the creation or rebuilding of a new world, what are the more important ingredients to the common coffee pot? Is it politicians? Is it scientist? Is it those physically fit? Is it those with specialised skilled in medicine and engineering? Or businessmen? If I was to choose, I would take scientist and people with specialised skills over politicians and businessmen. And within this group of chosen people, the healthy would be filtered into the "survival" program and diversity is to be ensured by inclusion of people from every race. The irony is that, those who could get the program going are the politicians for they hold the power and the businessmen for they hold the finance. In the end, how would saving anything be possible. Richard Dawkins explored on the idea of selfish genes and believes that it is in the selfishness that we survive. If that's the case, I don't see how we may survive well or even survive altogether.

Qn: Why would we want to bring animals with us to populate the land? Would it be better just to have domestic animals and keep the natural resources solely for agriculture? Is a diverse genetic pool across speices still required in this age of science and technology advancement.

Play Survive 2012 game.
