Watched this movie sometime back. I don't remember who I watched this movie with. Perhaps I have watched it alone, which I actually enjoy doing. Oops. I remembered. I watched it late in the night at Kev's. First heard about sister's from Ming and then borrowed the book from her after watching the movie. This reminds me that I have another book from her to read - A friend like Henry.

Both the movie and novel are good but I would choose the director's adaptation over the novel. Yes, the novel was beautifully written with interludes of quotes in between. Not forgetting the first person accounts. However, the director did a really impressive job in keeping together the essentials of the novel and bringing across the tension and complexity of the issues the family is struggling with. Nevertheless, I was totally immersed in the characters and the emotions that were burdening them.

I was drawn to Jesse, a boy trapped in a young man's body, struggling to grow up and understand too fast. He was eaten up from the inside. I took special note of Sara more than the others possibility because of the consistant personality she displayed thru out the novel. Since the start of the novel, she was the one who pushed and persevered, unwaivered by the difficulties. She kept to her one objective, saving Kate. The brilliance in bringing out this characteristic of Sara was done by taking portion of her thru different time till present day. Everyone struggled with Kate's APL. Sara struggled too but kept true and unchanged.

"I know I jump at every sliver of possibility that might cure Kate, but it's all I know how to do. And even if you don't agree with me, even if Kate doesn't agree with me,want to be the one who says I told you so." - Sara

"When you are a kid you have your own language and unlike French or Spanish" - Anna

Read the differences between film and novel.

Feels like home by Edwina Hayes

Somethin' in your eyes, makes me wanna lose myself
Makes me wanna lose myself, in your arms
There's somethin' in your voice, makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts, the rest of my life

If you knew how lonely my life has been
And how long I've been so alone
And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you've done

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

A window breaks, down a long, dark street
And a siren wails in the night
But I'm alright, 'cause I have you here with me
And I can almost see, through the dark there is light

Well, if you knew how much this moment means to me
And how long I've waited for your touch
And if you knew how happy you are making me
I never thought that I'd love anyone so much

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way the back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

Guitar Tab

You've found a kindred spirit
One that attracts soul who's arid
Thou' hidden, was found and treasured
That free spirit's capture was ensured
Mayhem that followed, the tragic love
Yearning and longing for what's lost
The hurt unchanged thru the years
Numbed and hidden the pain burns
The feelings of affection unchanged
All those past memories remained
Drawing him and her together
That night they found one another
In his arms lies the lost dreams
Certain was what everything seems
He watches, even, her every breath
He has grown much since his youth
All these I slowly read
While I munch on bread
"What nonsense!" my mind screamed
There's too much icing and cream

The twist: it is sometimes too late to notice another.
