Life is about relationships.
Stresses that arise from other facets of our daily wrestle of the demands from work mish mashed with the world’s worst dog, is unthinkable. There are times when you’ve want to take the easy way out by using the method called “abandonment”.
Problem fixed? Sort of. Feeling good? Sort of. Live on without him? No.
That’s why Marley stayed. At the end of the day, it was not about the couches he chewed, the necklace he ate, the poo poo he did on the beach and the nightmares he gave the caretaker. It was about the fun, joy, being a member of the family and acceptance.
At Marley's funeral, Jennifer asked Patrick, “Anything you want to say to Marley?” Patrick simply replied, “He knows what I want to tell him.” That’s intimacy. That’s relationship. And I was moved to tears.
“Remember the times we call you the worst dog in the world, don’t believe a minute of it… You’re the greatest.” - John Grogan to Marley
