Jamal won the 20 million rupees through sheer luck in the renowned game show, “Who wants to be a millionaire”. Every question was coincidentally linked to a childhood recollection. Each answer lays a story that is intricately linked with Salim and Latika. It is through the flashbacks and the minute details of Jamal’s life that assisted him to respond the impossible that was posted to him.
Through the movie’s depiction, experiences from all walks of life, even that from a slum, is priceless. I have been complaining about my plain childhood where I have not gained much from, not knowing how to skate, play the keyboard, do adventurous things and travel to any country beyond Thailand. “What’s the value tagged to your life?” I asked myself.
Each skill set for different profession is given a different salary range. The salary range that one is placed under, to be realistic, is the worth of that individual seen in the eyes of a commercialized globe. However, the salary that is given through this evaluation is not totally justified for what we have that is not quantifiable, i.e. memories and the potential for growth which is immeasurable is not accounted or fully captured in any assessment. We’re worth more than what we are being paid hourly.
I would have amassed much treasure from my “plain” childhood if I remembered the details of each “plain” episode. It’s not late to fish in the well of possibilities. You’re only turning 24.
Breathe deeply
Don’t forget.
Take each step seriously.
Remember the second that doesn’t return.
Savor the next.
For my destiny was written.
