Went to Yang Zheng Primary School to help with a workshop facilitated by Kelvin Poh. It was a 11.30pm to 6pm. Was there together with some of LSBC Youth Ablazer and Lala's JC and Uni friends.
Met these very active, mostly active, and fun loving and outgoing children. Hence, talking to them is fairly easy. They are not defiant and is willing to listen. Therefore I was able to get them to consider the little things that were not right and is yet "normal" in their class 6E. I was taken aback when name calling was normal and not considered fighting because in the more intense name calling, some would raise their fist and some would cry. As usual when the adults come into the picture, finger pointing begins.
The boys in this group like to call each other names. It's as though the culture is to call names. Some is as mild as nicknames to very bad vulgar language, body parts and insulting each others' parents.
I have a feeling that they desire to be part of this group. Doing all these are like the "cool" and "in thing". Not doing all these makes you a outcast. Took time to teach and I hope they will be reformed. Their form teacher, Ms Arza, is really kind and connect with her children very well. I believe she knows this culture that is prevalent among the more out spoken boys and has been working at it. Kambette Ms Arza!
Seeing all this bring to me my CC children. I need to pray that they stay firm and righteous in environment like these. Yet, ablt to connect with their frineds and be the salt and light in their class and school.
