Was invited to Narinder's elder sis wedding dinner. I totally forgot about the date. Thankfully, there was Mervin who reminded me after being reminded by Sianglin. It was at Singapore Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry. It's a odd feeling going there for a Sikh wedding when the exterior of the building is so temple-ish. It was an eye opener to experience the rich culture of the Sikh. However, at the wedding, it was evident that the western wedding culture has invaded and have found it's place in the Sikh community. They have champagne pouring and cake cutting. Chinese wedding practices are found there too! The classic cheer of "Yummmmm Se" and Ang Pau was there.
My stiff bones and ackward dancing were put to the test again when the Bhangra troope tried to engage everyone in the dancing. Amazingly the relatives are very spontanous about doing the dancing. I got to learn the classic dance moves of bulb twisting and dog patting. It was fun.
Our different culture is in this melting pot where it's blending together to give different flavour to which may be alien to our ancesters. I'm reminded of the conversation Stacia, Andy and I had in the car on the way back to the west. If Jesus was chinese, what would the sacraments be? Maybe the bread and wine would be rice wine and Man Tou.
I wonder when would the wedding of Narin and "Good-dip" be.
